Connecting Macbook to sony tv vga...

i can connect it with the adapter for vga to the mini everything comes up says 1920 by 1080 or whatever but i only see the background image i dont see any of the logos on the bottom or anything that boots up why is this? i have a wireless keyboard plugged in the mac but not designed for it do i need the mac bluetooth ones? anybody help me out?

Probably because your mb display is still active, making it the primary screen.

still cant figure it out i figured out mirroring but how can i turn off the screen on the laptop and have it be closed? once i close it it turns the computer into sleep mode.
