I normally use an additional Samsung monitor with my MBP (DVI -> DVI) with no problems. The computer always detects the external monitor and designates it as the 2nd screen.

However, I tried hooking my MBP up to my LG television with a DVI-HDMI cable. When I have it plugged in, and navigate to the correct input on my TV, nothing shows up on the TV. The screen on my laptop temporarily blanks out and resets - as it does whenever I connect my Samsung monitor - except when it resets, nothing has changed, and nothing displays on the TV.

I tried to "Detect displays" and tweak anything else that I could under Preferences > Displays, but I'm at my wits end...

Does anybody know why it might not be showing up?? Thanks!

Have you tried a different HDMI port?

Some TV's have a certain HDMI port setup for DVI-->HDMI connections. I know on my Samsung LCD-TV HDMI1 is labeled "HDMI 1 (DVI)" for instance.

Also, make sure the output resolution on your MacBook is no higher than 1920x1080.
