I have a 2011 MPB in which I picked up 2 mini displayports(1 for DVI and 1 for HDMI) adapters. I picked up the DVI to connect to my external monitor, but I accidently picked up a 6ft Male to Female DVI cable, so I cannot connect it to the back of my monitor.
When I attempt to connect the MPB to my monitor using a HDMI to DVI cable, I get a blank screen on my external monitor, although the MPB recognizes it.
Can anyone help me to solve this issue?

Have you tried changing the resolution on the MBP for the monitor? Is there a frequency adjustment on the monitor?

Also many people forget but in order to do this you have to have the macbook plugged into a socket (even if the battery is fully charged) also have you tried turning mirroring on and or off?

You have to have it plugged in to do what? Because I can plug mine into my HDTV via HDMI running off internal battery just fine.
