So I have been doing some looking around online for how to connect my MBP to my 1080i HDTV and a lot of people have been saying to use the DVI to HDMI cable.

My question is: I don't even have a DVI socket in my MBP.. or at least I don't think I do. So do I need some sort of adapter, too?

I already have the audio figured out, I just don't know how I can connect it with the DVI to HDMI cable alone.

This is the cable: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...t_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance

Do you have the new MBP or an older version? If you have the new MBP you will need to buy an adapter:
DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (optional)

If you have an older MBP, you will find the DVI port on the right side towards the hinge.

I hope this helps.

Have you already got an HDMI cable? If not use a cheap one.

Buy a cheaper HDMI to DVI adaptor.

If you have the unibody MBP you need a display port adaptor not mini dvi.

You need to get the sound through the sound out on the MBP, A 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable should do the job ( I'm waiting for mine ) or if you have surround sound and an optical in that's you're best bet.

I had mine connected to my sony40V4000 last night, watched starwars in HD, crystal clear, 1:1 mapping. Brilliant, very happy.

Okay, so here's what I plan on getting/have:

My current audio cables that I have:

HDMI to DVI cable:

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter:

Would that work?
If yes, I'll probably want to keep looking for the DisplayPort to DVI Adapter because it's like 30 bucks :\
Does it really matter the brand on any of the items I listed above (if that would even work..)?

The belkin sound cable is fine ( or should be from what I gather, I can't see why it won't work )

The DVI > HDMI cable is also fine and it's a good price.

don't think that's a mini displayport to dvi adapter which you need if you have the new unibody MBP. So you're right you'd need mini displayport to dvi and then dvi to hdmi, and then a separate audio cable from your headphone jack.

if you have the older MBP you just need dvi to hdmi adapter and then of course the audio cable is the same.

Ah I see. Well are these adapters usually native to Apple store? I can't find it anywhere else for cheaper.. sad how the more expensive laptop ends up costing me even more D:
