That is assuming that your stereo speakers are connected like that. If its just the wires then you need something a bit more intricate but if I am assuming correctly then that <i>should</i> work just fine.
 
this is how i play sound for my MBP, through my stereo using a cable just like that works like a charm
 
yes. kind of a pain to have the cord hanging out but works great.
 
That's the cable you need to connect your computer to a stereo receiver or amplifier--something that will drive your speakers. But you can't connect that cable directly from computer to speakers.

What connection should my stereo have? It's actually a really old (~15 year old) stereo, so I'm not sure if I'll have it...
