Connecting Outlook 2011 with windows exchange server 2003

Hey Guys,

At my company we are using windows exchange server 2003. Now my boss bought a new macbook pro (snow leapard) with Mac office 2011 installed. Apparently Outlook '11 and exchange server '03 doesn't work together. Only exchange server 2007 and up are compatible. Is there any way around this? My boss hates Office 2008. Can't blame him..

Only way is to have your Admin enable IMAP. Turn on the protocol, and then use the OL11 Wizard to find the servers, etc. FYI; the Calendar items will not automatically update, nor will Free/Busy Times, etc. Pretty much just email...

There is no "Apparently" to it. Outlook 2011 requires newer versions of Exchange Server 2007 or higher. [Not even older versions of Exchange 2007 will work.] As has been stated on this and other forums, Outlook 2011 is is an upgrade to Entourage [2008] EWS aka Entourage 13. If you want to use Microsoft software to access Exchange Server 2003 from your Mac, then you need Entourage 12 aka Entourage 2008 prior to Entourage EWS. Entourage 2004 also works. So too does the MacOS 9 [Classic-incompatible] Outlook 2001 except for the fact that it sucks with HTML mail.

There are many reason why knowledgeable Mac users love Microsoft so much. This is just one of them.
