Am having issues connecting my Samsung T7 shield, and T9 to Tahoe, on both devices Mac Studio and Macbook Pro.

Initially Tahoe was crashing when I would try to access the drives, and the system would reboot. Then, after running disk utility in recovery mode, and not finding issues. I would boot into Tahoe, plugin the T7 or T9, and then I would run disk-utility on check their status. Disk utility would crash, and so would finder - stop responding. Then, eventually I would need to unplug the drives, and wait for Tahoe to become responsive or it crashes and reboots.

Any thoughts on what could be going on?

Both drives are connecting fine to Sequoia and no issues. I'm only bumping into the crashes with Tahoe.

No idea. I have a T7 shield and it's working. Connected directly to M1 mini (not going through a hub) via USB C

I do notice that the Samsung magician app can no longer see the T7 although it can see the internal SSD. If you have that app or any similar app, uninstall them and see what happens

am not running samsung magician. Both drives are just regular drives. Also, noted that if I were connect a thumbdrive to the computer, it reads it fine, but if I try to reboot with the thumbdrive still plugged in - its halts - refuses to start up. I have to remove the thumbdrive.

Spoke with apple support (chat), and after a lot of back & on forth, they've asked me to re-install Tahoe, and try again. Currently - re-installing.

Just found the issue. It's a power drain on the TB ports for the Studio ultra. Disconnected a monitor, and now the issue - crash is gone.

Maybe get a powered TB dock?
Had tried with the Caldigit TS4 earlier. I switched the cable from thunderbolt to hdmi. Things are working fine now. But, I may experiment later with different ports, thunderbolt is the better connection for me. It may just be a faulty ports. Port 1 & 2 share the same board, port 3 & 4 same board, and 5 & 6, and HDMI same board. Will pass by the Genius Bar next time am near an Apple Store. Telephone & chat support is rarely helpful.

What about the MBP?
I was impatient with the MBP. I had connected the SSD drive to the MBP after the crashes at the Studio. I realised that the first connection post a crash, finder / disk utility will stall - not be responsive for a while, but the SSD is actually being read - watched the blinking light that appeared to be normal. After a few minutes, finder & disk utility became responsive again and the drives were okay. I had thought the stalling / unresponsiveness of the disk utility / finder to be crashes as I had to force quit to regain control. Leaving things be and just watching, eventually resolved it. This is strictly for the MBP. At the Studio, the machine completely crashed & restarted on its own.
