Just bought a Mac Pro. I have a flatscreen TV that I could connect my old PC to. I was told with an adapter I could do this with the Mac. I connected it, but it only shows the background of what's on the computer screen. No icons or opened functions show up. Is there a way or function to fix this?

Are you trying to mirror your displays? Go to System Preferences and you'll find the appropriate setting there.

Is the TV a second monitor or the primary one? It sounds like you're extending the primary display along to the TV. This will provide more screen real estate, but if you want each to display the same contents, you'll need to mirror them as Mackilroy suggested.
