I'm trying to connect a MBA (11") to a Samsung TV/Monitor using a mini-display port to vga cable. All I get on the monitor is the MBA default "galaxy" desktop screen even though I have a different desktop display on the MBA and no matter what is shown on the MBA the "galaxy" display remains. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem until I double checked the display icon in the upper right near the clock, etc. My external tv monitor was listed there, I only had to select it. You may have to try the "detect displays" option, then select your monitor. HTH. Also, I use an hdmi to thunderbolt port adapter for the sweet hook-up.
