i have searched a lot but haven't been able to solve my problem

i have a windows XP box on my network

i can connect to the C$/D$ admin shares via smb://.... only when the windows firewall is OFF - when i enable it, i can't connect

i have allowed ports 135-139,445 in the firewall, but still no luck

any ideas???

Make sure that you have enabled the File and Printer Sharing exception in the Windows Firewall exceptions list.

To enable the File and Printer Sharing exception
Open Windows Firewall, and then click the Exceptions tab.

Select the File and Printer Sharing check box.

sorry for the post - it's solved (for now)

somehow it just started working, all i did was enable the firewall on both NIC cards instead of just 1 of them. go figure, it's windows

maybe it just takes a while for the ports to apply

yes i did this first
then i added 135-139,445 TCP and UDP

it wasn't working for while, but now it does
