Connecting TS cable to headphone jack

Hi all, I need to get a mono audio signal from the headphone jack on a new 2021 macbook pro. Is it fine if I just plug in a 3.5mm TS cable to do this? I can't really find any information about this. I know it will output a stereo signal with a TRS cable plugged in, but not sure what happens with a TS cable plugged in.
