Connecting USB to Firewire Drives

Does anyone have experience with how well USB drives work when connected to firewire drives. I have a LaCie drive that has a USB port. I am wondering how well it would connect to a USB external drive?

As USB is not meant for daisy chaining and the USB port on the LaCie is only meant for connecting it to the computer (therefore the shape of the USB port, like on printers or scanners), you should better look into a USB hub, as what you wanna do will not work.
