I have tried to connect a VGA thunderbolt 2 to the Thunderbolt 3(USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter so that I can use a projector with my 2016 MacBook Pro - touch bar (Sierra) but nothing happens p- it doesn't detect the monitor/projector. I have tried clicking on 'option' and then 'detect displays' in the Displays Preferences but nothing happens - it's as though it isn't connected at all? I'm n to sure what type of projector it is. Any advice?

You can't use the Thunderbolt 2 adapter to connect a display device unless it's a Thunderbolt display. It is NOT a DisplayPort adapter.

You need to buy the USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter
