Hello,

This must get asked an awful lot, so I'm sorry if I'm continuing the trend.

I would be grateful for some advice on connecting a MacBook Pro (the type I think is often described as 'aluminum unibody') to a high-definition monitor.

After reading the various guides on MacRumors and elsewhere, I have been led to believe I need a Apple Mini DisplayPort and and HDMI to HDMI cable. To be consistent I have found them both on Amazon - I'd be grateful if someone could check these for compatibility and what-not.

Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002ERBFYM/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A1T39SA8AUFT6J

HDMI to HDMI cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003O3UUFU/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A1HYUQEVEP9KPZ

Please also let me know if you think I'm being too cheap (they're both in pound sterling); I'm trying to get the cables cheaply, but obviously I want the two to work when they arrive.

I don't know how easy it is to give advice on things like this, but let me know if more information is needed.

Thank you in advance,

Just an FYI about this one.

*** IMPORTANT AUDIO NOTE *** Apple Mini-DisplayPort outputs on 2008 to 2009 MacBooks and iMacs are enabled for VIDEO ONLY.... Whilst new 2010 MacBooks and iMac (27 and 21.5) do support audio *** This adapter does NOT support audio on any Mac ***

Thanks everyone.

tjb1, that's worth mentioning. The AUDIO part really affected my decision. I went for the adapter which did audio as I'm sure my MacBook Pro outputs audio from the HDMI port: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-DisplayPort-Adapter-cable-Neet®/dp/B002ERBFYM/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_cart_1

I went to the System Profiler, and then from Hardware, selected Audio. Am I correct in thinking if 'HDMI / DisplayPort Output' is displayed in this list (which it did), then I have the supported port?

Or better still, a screenshot:

All 2010 models after April 13(meaning the real 2010s) will support audio.
