Connections to Studio Display

I am pondering how my new Macbook Air (when it arrives next month) will connect with my new Apple Studio Display.

With the Magsafe connection, would I be best off having that plugged in for power, and then a separate Connection from the Macbook Air USB-C port to the Thunderbolt port (also for power) or to one of the USB-C ports on the Apple Display? Or do I skip the Magsafe connection and only use the Thuderbolt port for power and display?

Sorry about he basic question, but I will be finalizing the set up for my son going off to college and I wonder which option to give as the primary setup, and then which other to suggest and alternate options.

Skip MagSafe, the Studio Display is perfectly capable to charge the MBA by itself.
