Apple sells a DVI adapter that plugs into the Thunderbolt port, you can use that.
Then all you need is a standard HDMI cable.

Apple doesn't make an HDMI adapter, but you can buy a 3rd party one. They will both provide the same picture, but with HDMI, you can plug speakers into the audio out on the LCD, if you wanted.

Not only is it not a compromise, it is actually probably the best way to do it.
