So, last resort to avoid blazing temps and throttling while in Solidworks (CAD) I have decided to disable the turbo boost. So now it is clocked at a constant 2.4 GHz.

My question, how much am I actually "neutering" my laptop? it is the 2.4GHZ 8 core- i9.

Conceptually is this like going from a Ferrari to a BMW M3 or from a Ferrari to a Prius? =P

Cheers.

Only you can determine if disabling turbo best works for you or not.

I have a Razer 15" and that thing is a beast but when I'm on battery, I turn things down, including turbo boost and I'm quite happy with the performance.

You're not hurting anything, it just really depends on whether you actually need the horsepower
