I currently have a MacBook Pro 2010, i7 2.66GHz and I have just recently installed a 1TB WD HDD in it, which surprisingly is faster than the stock 500GB 5400RPM HDD I had before. I wanted to upgrade my MBP to 8GB RAM, possibly from OWC, but I was wondering...

In an unlikely problem were to happen with my computer, and I would need a replacement, would Apple give me 8GB RAM if I already have it in the laptop?

I am asking this because current MBP 2011 use 1333MHz RAM while 2010 uses 1066MHz RAM, and its not compatible. Would they just put their own 8GB RAM sticks in there? I do have 3 years of AppleCare.

Thanks

No.
Keep the original 4gb, if you need to send it back, swop it back.

I'm using 1333mhz ram in my 2009 mbp, which runs at a max 1066mhz, no issues, and when I upgrade the MBP, I can use the same 8gb RAM in it.

I read that in 2009 MBP's that 1333MHz will work, but in 2010, the i7's aren't compatible with the faster memory. True?

Would any normal 1333MHz RAM work in 2010 MBP, but will run at a max speed of 1066MHz?

I'm not an expert, all I can say is my 2009 core2duo mbp has 1333mhz ram installed running at 1066mhz.

interestingly Lion now reports that it's running 1333mhz and accepts 1333mhz.

DDR3 1333 will work with 1066. The memory can usually downclock without a problem.

I found ram on newegg for $35 after MIR. It is ddr3 1333. ($45 before MIR)

When I bought my iMac in March 2009 the 8gb ram kit from newegg was $850, looks like manufacturing became a little easier.
