I currently have a 2.16 macbook pro (2 Gb ram) that has been giving me trouble. I have been offered a previous generation macbook pro that has these specs:

2.4 GHz
4 GB
250 HD
Applecare included.

$1750

Is this a good deal?

I am also wondering if I would notice a big improvement in the time it takes for Handbrake to rip a dvd to the hard drive.

I think it's a good deal. With the extra memory and the extra processor speed, along with AppleCare, I think you should go for it. And, the previous generation are still pretty damn nice.

Just my opinion :)
