I'm currently using a 4.0 megapixel Olympus Camedia C-4000 that's about four years old, and a DCR-HC65 that's probably pushing two years old. I'm not dissatisfied with either of them per se, but I'd like to see if I can consolidate devices and get as good as or higher quality.
I've been hearing a lot about the Sony HDR-HC7 and Canon HV20, both of which seem to offer pretty good still shot functionality and the added benefit of taking video in HD. I was curious, would combining devices into one of these two camcorders:
- give me as-good-as still photos to where I can finally retire the Olympus?
- give me fantastic HD video quality that would perform nice enough in indoor settings? Specifically, one of the things I want to do with it is genealogical interviews with aging relatives. The low-light performance of the HC65 leaves something to be desired here.
- offer the ability to capture analog video to the iMac. I've seen some camcorders that offer this ability. That way I could sell the Canopus ADVC-55 on eBay and make a little more toward the camcorder purchase.
Thanks,
K
