First up, I am not an OSX or iOS user in any form. I am a Windows gamer and Slackware & Android user who refused to buy store bought machines. With that said, I apologize if this is extremely noobish, I know jack and crap about macs and Apple in general. We bought the Mac because my wife liked the feel of the keys typing and the aluminum body and its still running strong.
The hardware: wife's iPhone 6 (128G), retina macbook (256G), various external drives and a synology NAS.
My wife has filled both her phone and Mac with movies and pictures of our first to the point of can't update iOS or OSX. I am looking for the most efficient way to make a full backup of all photos and videos from both devices excluding duplicates, if possible, to some external medium and reimage the Mac and iPhone afterwards to start her freah. I won't bs anyone, the iPhotos - Photos and file structuring of how/where iPhone backups are done are perplexing to me and fully consider myself a OSX idiot. Appreciate any help. Thanks!
