contact and messaging issue

when i delete a group of messages or delete a contact they both no longer show up in their respective lists like they should. the issue here is in spotlight. when i use spotlight to search either the name of the deleted contact or search for words in the deleted imessage they show up in spotlight. any idea how to completely remove all data about the messages and contacts?
