Contact showing as number, not name

I've tried to google search to find a solution to this problem, however all of the answered results are from back in firmware 1 days and I don't want to try the solutions on my 3.1.2 iPhone. Anyways, only one of my contacts is showing as the number instead of the name. This only happens when they call me (in the call log) and in the SMS app. It always shows the number 1(xxx)xxx-xxxx, and if I try to use the options "Add to existing contact" or "create new contact", nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix this problem? I do have google sync for contacts enabled.
