contact sync issues with other devices?

Hello,

I'm experiencing sync issues with contacts app in El Capitan.

started off with iMessage, I noticed numbers without names, so I created a contact for it, it wouldn't save to contacts app.

then tested creating a fresh contact to contacts app on iPhone,
it wouldn't display or sync over to the Mac.

have signed out of iCloud, iMessages, contacts all on the Mac and iPhone,

but this hasn't solved it - realise it's still a beta,

but is anybody else experiencing this or overcome a fix for this,
