Contacts and calendar backup?

Does the backup that itunes makes each time I plug the phone to my pc backup the contacts and calendar?
Note that I left the default options (no outlook sync or anything).

It sure does! But you should also save your contacts to something else too like Gmail or Yahoo!

Im sorry but I dont understand. I only have the backup the itunes make. If I want to reset my iphone now and restore it with that backup, would I have my contacts and calendar restored or not?
