My mom has an iPhone 8, currently up to date iOS 16.1.1
She's told me of 5 instances over the past 6 months where a contact has become blocked on its own, these are frequent contacts, where she was notified thru other means that the people were not able to call her, straight to voicemail and not listed in recent calls.
She had to edit the contact and manually unblock it. She is adamant that she did not block these contacts, she's got no reason to as they are close friends and family. She's not a tech nerd by any means, but for a woman in her late 60's she's fairly competent on the iPhone.
I have no idea how this can happen on its own. She never edits these contacts, has no reason to, and the block caller option is at the very bottom so you have to scroll intentionally to get there on her smaller phone... I can't see how it can be accidental, and she even uses one of those folio cases, so accidental input is pretty much not possible.
The only thing she told me is that she sometimes "silences" a caller if she cannot pick up, with the volume button, so the ringer doesnt continue to ring. Is there some sort of hidden feature the iPhone thinks that you want to block a person if you hit the ring silence button a few times over a period of time? That's the only way i think this could somehow block the contacts permanently.
Has anyone got an idea why this might be happening or suggest any settings to check?
