In the current version of Mavericks, you must only sync your Contacts and Calendars through iCloud.

Why is Apple forcing me to store my Contacts on their server when I try to sync my iPhone with my computer?

I'm under confidentiality agreements that prevent me from sharing my Contacts with cloud-based services. Up to now, iTunes allowed me to sync via the USB cable.

inb4 someone posts that you don't have to use iCloud but you do have to use a server.

Only work around aside from using your own OSX server is to run an older OS or Windows to sync via usb.
