Contacts getting deleted

No worries! You probably have your Groups setting off.
First, if you aren't using iCloud for your contacts, make sure it's off in iCloud in the Settings app.
Next, go into your Contacts app and press the Groups button on the top left. Make sure that the Contacts Group you ARE using is selected. Press done.
Your contacts should show back up. You may have dupes if you tried to enter the same contact more than once because displaying your Group was off.
