Contacts Have Doubled Up

I have a list of contact in my iPhone but each contact now appears twice because the groups they belong to also appear twice.

If I deselect one of each group, some contacts disappear.

Is there any way I can fix this and arrange everything with a single group which only appears once?

I think it may be because of some syncing issues.
