Contacts have weird characters

Hey everyone, I switched back to a 3GS last night from the Droid. When syncing my iPhone all of my contacts have weird characters in them. They seem to be squares with a period in the bottom right corner. Its very odd. When I look in my address book they all look fine. Any ideas?

My contacts stopped syncing with gmail just now... I have nothing..
