Contacts Issue with duplicates

Not sure if this is the right forum to place this, but as I did it on the phone I thought here was best

I have exchange email set up on my phone, but my contacts are just through the phone (mobileme/address book on mac)

I was reading my work email and updating some missing email address's, clicked the name in the mail header and chose add to exisiting contact, all seemed to look fine

My Mac then synced with MobileMe and told me it had new contacts, I then had a duplicate of each of the contacts I had amended, the newly added one had the extra info I had just put in, original was as I had it before

I deleted the original one and everything seems as expected (half expecting it to totally delete contact from phone)

Anyone come across anything similar

Just gone into a contact on the phone, made a change, this has created a new contact on my mac instead of amending the current one

can someone trying adding a new field to a contact and see if when it syncs with MobileMe/Address book you get a duplicate
