Contacts Number formatting

I have an iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1, baseband 4.10.01 and I tried to activate FaceTime/iMessage using this guide. I managed to activate FaceTime and could care less about iMessage since it won't activate. But my contacts got screwed up and now instead of being saved as (999) 999-9999 numbers are saved as 99-99999999 or 999-999999 for some people, and I can't get rid of the dash or do anything to change the format. Any ideas?
