Hi,

I had a Mac book, which is of 4.5 years old.
To my knowledge there is a tool by apple available to migrate all the contents, settings …etc from one mac to another.
Is there any way possible to a take a back up of migration in a hard disk and then transfer it later to a mac
As I can only afford to buy a new mac only after selling my old mac (ebay)…I want to take a back up of all the contents, settings of my current mac In a hard disk and then transfer them to a new mac one month later.

Thanks in advance

I did something similar recently. I bought one of the new retina's and then gave my girlfriend my 2008 MacBook Pro because she had an old MacBook. I restored my '08 to factory settings and then transferred the stuff on her MacBook over using a Belkin Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 cable and the Migration Assistant located in the Utilities folder. I had to buy the cable for this specific purpose but the guy at the Genius bar said I could return it, no questions asked after I was finished with it.
