Continuing Time Machine Backups after restore

Hi,

I recently formatted my HD and used Time Machine to restore my files and folders.

I would like to keep using Time Machine for backups, however it is now telling me that my backup HD does not have enough space. I thought that Time Machine was supposed to delete old backups in order to make room for new ones.
