Continuity Apple Pay?

I just went to pay for something on my Mac, and the option came up to use a card from my phone. A special version of the Apple Pay screen came up on the phone asking for me to confirm, and when I did the payment went through. How old is this? I've never seen it before.

My Mac that doesn't have a fingerprint keyboard does this for me, asks me to confirm on my watch usually (phone occasionally, e.g. if the watch is locked). That's been going on for at least a couple of years.

The Macs with fingerprint reader let me do it on the Mac directly.
