Wife and I use same apple id so her phone/pad keeps up to date with photos, reminders, calendars etc. Can set her own number/email for facetime and messages. Now with continuity her ipad 'rings' whenever a call comes onto my phone as my phone number is associated with my apple id. Is there any way to 'match' her phone to her ipad with her phone number whilst still logging in with my apple id? If not I suppose a new apple id for her and then set up family sharing.

Don't think so. There should be settings for that but Apple has yet to deliver. Quite possibly iOS 8 GM will have it, but don't count on it.

Until IOS 8 is released (and family sharing is fully supported) only way around this would be to manually sign in/out of the apple id..
I.e staying signed out and signing in just once a day just until changes have been updated just to sign out again.
