Contrast and Hue adjustment possible 3rd party Application?

As you know there have been discussions about the 3G screen being too "hot". Some folks like it and some don't. Since Apple, at this point, does not allow for the user to make adjustments to contrast, hue, etc. is it possible for a third party developer to come up with something? Or would this be considered "operating system" and be off limits to developers?

I just thought it would be nice and we could end the discussions about what looks better...blue or yellow tint! Everyone could adjust their screen to their liking.

I'm pretty sure it would be off limits because it would need to run in the background to keep it that way.
