control center not working?

I haven't seen any topics on this yet, but I for the life of me can not activate control center. All I've read is along the lines of a swipe up from the bottom of the screen. I've tried this from the lock screen (with the setting turned on, as is the case by default), from the home screen, and from within various apps. And...nothing. I have no idea how to activate this.

I figured it out. The problem seems to be that you have to start the swipe motion from pretty much the very bottom of the screen. And this doesn't seem to be possible with the Otterbox case I had on. Once removed, I had no problems in doing the upward swipe
