I have a HomePod and various Apple products (Mac, iPhone, Watch, etc). I know that I can send audio to my HomePod via "air play" so for example I can start iTunes on my iPhone and send the audio to the HomePod. But I get the idea that it could do more than that.

I have a speech impediment and Siri voice commands do work for me at all. Via the "Home" app, I can pause and unpause and it starts playing random music from my iTunes and I can tap the plus and minus buttons on the top for volume control.

There must be a stand alone controller inside. Is there any way to control it without voice commands?

when you get the airplay menu options, you should be able to scroll down on the screen, and the HomePod will have it's own "tile," once you select that, then the music app will control the HomePod directly instead of playing on your phone and airplaying to the HomePod.

Thank you! More than I was hoping for. When I wrote my question, I was sorta asking myself what was the point but it came back to me while I was reading the article. With the HomePod directly playing the music, you can control it from other devices (pause in particular).

no problem, glad I could help

I just wish it would switch automagically to whatever is playing. instead of having to select it first.
would come in really handy with the aTV or playing on the HomePod , as the remote would always be on the home screen on all your devices.

I'm also wondering if they could have "apps" for it like Watch. For example, Audible has an app that run on the watch and you can dump your book to the watch and it is self contained. HomePod could do the same type of thing. Podcasts as well. It seems to be just iTunes.
