No biggie, I suppose as it only really gets used when something goes wrong and I can use an external keyboard for that stuff.

But any ideas and possible fixes?

Apple would say get a whole new case assembly at $500. Screw that.

However, there are keyboards with back lights on Amazon with good reviews.

Is it likely to be more than a keyboard?

If the control key of an external USB keyboard works then your logic board should be OK. Replace the MBP keyboard only. Before, check if the keyboard ribbon cable is well seated to its logic board socket
