This just started happening in the last few days... if you could help me fix it I'd greatly appreciate it!

When playing a video FULL SCREEN in ANY app, the playback control overlay keeps popping up, over and over again. I've created the gif below to illustrate what I am talking about:

youtube.gif

This normally occurs when you move the mouse, but my mouse is completely still. It happens around five times every minute.

This is occurring in:

YouTube in Firefox
YouTube in Safari
Netflix in Firefox
Netflix in Safari
QuickTime Player on MacOS
VLC Player on MacOS
ANY video player app on MacOS
(All software in the above list is updated to the latest version)

As you can imagine, this is REALLY annoying when you're trying to watch a movie!

Do any of you know what's causing this, and how to get it to stop?

Many thanks!

Specs:
iMac 27", late 2013
Latest update of Sierra (10.12.5)
24 gigabytes of installed RAM

Well, I figured out what was causing the problem... my on-screen cursor was moving all by itself in tiny increments. This movement would cause the video overlay to appear.

To see if the cursor twitching was being caused by my Magic Mouse, I gave its laser a really good scrubbing with a damp Q-Tip. Now the twitching is gone.

So, it appears that the entire time, the problem was being caused by a dirty mouse laser. Wow, something so trivial.

Resolved!
