Some time ago I discovered ToolDeamon, it’s the only telnet server working on Mac OS 7, 8 and 9. Don’t think it’s very well known, but I find it very cool, so thought I would share. Here is a screencast showing it in action :
Complete with my gaffes, and screen refresh problems (i did cut some parts ...).
The connection is via telnet on a iMac G5 running Tiger, and i use Timbuktu to get screensharing to a PowerBook 150. the iMac serves as pppd server to which the PB150 is connected via a serial cable, hence the slow screen refresh (sometime have to close the window and reopen to see the changes… ).
Commands are Macintosh Programmer's Workshop (MPW) shell commands.
Note it works very well too (and faster) with a Ti 1Ghz running 9.2.2 connected to my network, but wanted to try that on a very slow connection on one of my oldest Macs.
