Controle output volume when AV-Cable plugged in ?

Hi !
The headphone jack of my iphone 3Gs is broken, so I bought a 5 pin to headphone jack adapter.
Problem is that the iPhone recognizes it as a dock/AV cable, so the volume controle is turned off.
Can I change something in the OS so that it will activate volume control again ?
(I know that I'll have to jailbreak it.....)
