im after a controller that I can use to play MAME games on my MBA. I saw the PS4 controller works with Mac, but not sure if it works with MAME. I will just be playing MAME games.

Any suggestions appreciated.

No drivers. (Unless you use the switch on the back to put it in Xinput mode, in which case it's basically an Xbox gamepad and needs drivers.)

Seconded on the F310. It's fantastic for MAME and the like.

I also have a Hori fight pad for PS3/PS4. In PS3 mode, it works without any drivers like a Dual Shock does. The Hori has a better D pad and a 6-button layout like Street Fighter II. It costs quite a bit more, though.

I ordered the F310 last night from Amazon, should be here tomorrow.

Kind of veering off topic, I haven't played any games on my Mac in years, what is the best MAME app on the Mac these days?

Are these good instructions?

I use RetroArch. It's an all-in-one multi-emulator wrapper of sorts. It emulates basically every console and also has lots of arcade emulation options, including a current branch of MAME.

8bitdo makes very nicely built retro style controllers that support USB, Bluetooth, Mac, Windows, iOS, Android and Switch.
