Occasionally, I will VNC to my laptop when I'm not bringing it with me if I happen to find wi-fi using my iphone.

I've always wondered though, if it is possible to control a host PC/Mac from an iphone using just the USB cable without Wi-Fi?

Why would I want this? Just for the fun of using my cushioned laptop in my backpack with a cable wire running to my iphone while on the way to the bus stop.

Any possibility of this?

If anything, you'd have to leave the laptop open and running, so if it was in your backpack, it would probably end up closing.

It should be possible to disable sleep mode or adjust energy savings to make it possible for a semi-closed laptop to operate.

if you have something like the mac app called insomniacs (spelling?) then yes your laptop will stay "on" if the lid is closed.
