Just thinking out loud, I may get a Mac mini to use for additional rendering cores.
Can I access and control a mini with Catalina from a cMP with Mojave Via screen sharing....?
Or do you need the newer os on the main machine.

Also if connected by Ethernet, would it be a bottleneck for renders to be written back to mp ssd.

AFAIK, there is no need to be on the same OS version. I did that quite a few times.

Yes, normal 1Gbps ethernet is much slower than a normal SSD can do, and will create a bottleneck when read / write large video files (or any large sequential files).
