Controlling XBMC using Apple remote on MacBook

I have my old 13" MacBook running Lion connected to my TV using an Hdmi adapter. I use XBMC to play movies. XBMC is opened at login. I control XBMC using an Apple remote. Works very well except that from time to time the remote opens iTunes and/or acts as a volume control. I prefer to use remote over a wireless mouse.

How can I prevent the remote opening iTunes or changing the volume? I want the remote to only navigate the menus in XBMC . I tried deleting iTunes but the Os would not let me do that.

Found this thread over on the XBMC forum about it... Various tricks have been employed, but it doesn't seem like there is a perfect fix.

Thanks. I will check it out.

Not 100% sure yet but it seems to depend on whether or not the TV is on before or after I startup the MacBook.
