For a long time I was able to get 5.1 from my Roku to my Dolby Digital receiver. At this point the streaming companies have switched to Dolby Digital Plus which my receiver can't decode so they are defaulting to stereo.

Which streaming boxes can convert DD+ input and output the older Dolby Digital format (in my case over optical), AppleTV or other companies? I believe there's one older model of Roku that can do it and I've heard that at least some aTV models can do it but haven't confirmed that. I could replace my receiver but I'd much rather keep it and just replace my old Roku.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for the info. For my setup I need optical out which would mean a pretty old version of the aTV.

Anyone have a recommendation for a current product that converts to DD 5.1 and has optical out? Thanks.

Does your TV not have an optical output? If it does you could just plug any HDMI device into the tv, and then have it send the audio back to the receiver over optical.
