convert .ai to jpeg/bmp or something readable(?)

I've dl'ed a file from this link in hopes of being able to use the pictures possibly in closed for my desktop. However, my mac doesn't even recognize the file extension. I've scoured the internets in search of a converter to no avail. Most suggestions say to use preview but, as mention perviously, it doesn't work for me...

Please help!

It's a pattern swatch, usually applied to strokes and so forth in Illustrator, so converting it to a JPG isn't that easy, because the pattern is laid down as you use the various tools. But saying that, here's one I've made for you.[/URL] (3000 x 4242 pixels, 4.6mb)

File will only be up for a few hours and this is the only one I'll make.

Illustrator and Photoshop. You can take that JPEG now and colour it up, resize and edit it in The Gimp or another image editing app.
