I'd like to convert some avi files so I can put them into iTunes and eventually on my iPad. How do I get the avi files converted to iTunes?

I've tried handbrake before and it didn't work either. I'll try it again. Do you have any advice for when I do it? Handbrake is very technical to me.

Open Handbrake, open the .avi and then just select an Apple TV preset and choose the output directory and then press START.
I almost never had problems with Handbrake, unless the .avi file is using some strange codec, but I guess, they use Divx or Xvid in your files.

What do you mean by Apple TV preset?

What do you mean by output directory?

The video codec is set to H.264. But do I change that to MPEG-4?
Under Output Settings it says MP4 file. Or do I change that to MKV file?

Sorry like I said I'm not good with this stuff.
thanks

Leave codec and container (.m4v) as it is.
